The University of Massachusetts was established in the year 1852 and is one of the top research universities in the world. It is also known as UMass Boston and earlier it was known as Boston State College. With 1240 undergraduate students, the freshman classes started in 1968.
In 1966, a student newspaper was established known as 'The Mass Media'. The number of admissions was increased from 1240 to 2500 by the year 1968.
