History
It is the 26th Jesuits College in the United States. It was officially founded in 1942. The foundation stone was laid by Jesuits when they acquired two contiguous estates of the Brewster Jennings and Walter Lasher families. The university received its charter in 1945. In 1947, the College of Arts and Sciences admitted its first class of 303 male students. The former name of the university was Fairfield University of St. Bellarmine.
