Place description: Montreal was founded in 1642 with the name of Ville Marie which was then changed to its current name. The city is named after Mount Royal which is a triple-peaked hill that stands tall amongst its high-rise buildings. Now the second most populated city in the country, it was once Canada’s commercial centre before being surpassed by Toronto. Today, Montreal is an important centre for not only commerce but also for aerospace, technology, tourism, film, food and fashion.

Important landmarks/places nearby: The Musée Grévin Montreal is a great place to begin your exploration of the city. Place de la Dauversière and Vieux-Port de Montréal would give a glimpse into the culture of the french-speaking province of Quebec. You can also participate in the Tourist Scavenger Hunt of Old Montreal for a fun-filled experience.

Crime rate: Montreal is considered a safe city with the majority of its crimes classified as non-violent in nature. With a crime rate of 4,100 incidents per 100,000 people as recorded in 2015, Montreal is one of the safest cities in Canada but that doesn’t mean that people don’t need to be vigilant. Nearby Airports: The nearest airport is the Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, which is the only airport you need to be acquainted with. Just 25 minutes away from the ISI campus, you won't have to travel far away for your international and domestic travel.

Nearby Subways and train stations: The Laurier Station is the nearest subway station but we recommend taking the bus route for your daily commute. Pont Jacques-Cartier, Ontario / Parthenais and Ontario / Fullum are some conveniently located bus stops, i.e. a couple minutes away from the campus. Not only is taking the bus more cost-effective, it would also make you more used to your new surroundings.
