Lund University (Swedish: Lunds universitet) is a prestigious university in Sweden and one of northern Europe&rsquo;s oldest universities. The university is located in the city of Lund in the province of Scania, Sweden. It arguably traces its roots back to 1425, when a Franciscan studium generale was founded in Lund. After Sweden won Scania from Denmark in the 1658 Treaty of Roskilde, the university was officially founded in 1666 on the location of the old studium generale next to Lund Cathedral.

Lund University has eight faculties, with additional campuses in the cities of Malm&ouml; and Helsingborg, with 40,000 students in 270 different programmes and 1,300 freestanding courses. The university has some 600 partner universities in nearly 70 countries and it belongs to the League of European Research Universities as well as the global Universitas 21 network. Lund University is consistently ranked among the world&#39;s top 100 universities.

Two major facilities for materials research are in Lund University: MAX IV, a synchrotron radiation laboratory &ndash; inaugurated in June 2016, and European Spallation Source (ESS), a new European facility that will provide up to 100 times brighter neutron beams than existing facilities today, to be opened in 2023

As a top 100 university and ranked in the top 0.4% of universities in the world, Lund University attracts high achieving students from across the globe. The Lund University Global Scholarship programme seeks to recognise these students by awarding academic excellence grants. Scholarship grants may cover 25%, 50%, 75% or up to 100% of the tuition fee. The scholarship percentage awarded depends on budget available to the programme/faculty. It has no reflection on the students&#39; academic level of excellence. &nbsp;Please note that scholarships are toward tuition fees only and that living costs are not covered. Scholarship recipients must still be able to fund their living costs, as per the requirements of the Swedish Migration Agency. 
To be able to apply and be considered for a Lund University Global Scholarship, you must first have applied to the programme(s) or free-standing course(s) you wish to study at Lund University. You do this through the online, national application website &ndash; www.universityadmissions.se &ndash; during the application period. Once you have made a complete application to a degree programme or free-standing courses of at least 30 ECTS credits, and have paid the application fee, you will be able to apply for the scholarship. Internships -

Doing an internship during your study period is an excellent way to gain valuable experience and to get insight into the Swedish business culture and start your networking. Several of Lund University&rsquo;s Bachelor&rsquo;s and Master&rsquo;s programmes offer the possibility to include an internship as a part of the programme. The internship usually takes place in the third semester of a two-year programme and in the fifth semester of a three-year programme. The programme coordinators can often help students with contacts and tips about how to find an internship, but in most cases it is the student&rsquo;s responsibility to find their own internship position. In programmes where an internship is not included as a part of the curriculum, it may still be possible for you to choose to do an internship as an elective course. Check with your programme coordinator to find out if there is an internship opportunity within your programme.
