Oxford Brookes University is a public-based and research-oriented university located in the city of Oxford, England. The university was established in 1865 as the Oxford School of Art. It was named after the first principal of this institution, John Henry Brookes, who contributed to its development.

After its establishment, the institution went through many mergers and by the year 1970, it was widely known as Oxford Polytechnic. Oxford Brookes received its university status in 1992 after enacting the Further and Higher Education Act. That&rsquo;s why it is also termed &ldquo;new university&rdquo; or &ldquo;post-1992 University&rdquo;.
