History

Stevens Institute of Technology is one of the oldest and most prestigious higher education institutions of the USA. The university came into being after Edwin Augustus Stevens left a bequest wanting a learning institution to be established in 1868, leaving land and funds for the same to his trustees. Established in 1870, this private research university was also the first college in the country that was primarily dedicated to the field of mechanical engineering. On-campus facilities

The residential campus at Hoboken spans an area of 55 acres and Stevens boasts of its diverse community and ethical policies. All the first year students are guaranteed a spot as they are free to choose from all the available residential options provided by the university. Continuing students can choose from leased housing options.&nbsp; 
 
Off-campus facilities

Links for information on leased housing and application process for the same are given on the university website. If you wish to live independently, you can contact real estate agents but make sure that you are careful before signing any legally binding contracts.&nbsp; 
 
Food facilities&nbsp;

A number of good restaurants specialising in Indian cuisine are located in the campus vicinity. Offering both dine-in and takeaway options, you would always be close to some comfort food. The nearest available options are Karma Kafe and Curry Up Now.

Place description

It was in the 17th century that Hoboken came into being as a part of the New Netherland colony called Pavonia. Colonel John Stevens further developed the city from a resort to a residential area. Incorporated in 1855, Hoboken became a significant part of American Sport history when the game of baseball was recorded here for the first time. It has been a prominent port as it is located on the Hudson Waterfront and now is considered one of the best places to live in Hudson County.&nbsp;

Ripley&#39;s Believe It or Not! Times Square is a nearby tourist destination that you can visit for a good time. The Hoboken Food Tour is meant for you and your friends if you are a group of foodies. Other notable tourist destinations located close to the campus include The Channel Garden, the Empire State Building and the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway. 
 
Crime rate

Crime rate of Hoboken for the year 2018 was recorded to be 215.99 per 100,000 population which was a decline from the previous year&rsquo;s crime rate, 236.68 per 100,000 population. You can look for more specific statistics to know if you would be comfortable in the city. 
 
Nearby Airports

Newark Liberty International Airport is the nearest international airport from the campus being just half an hour away by car. The JF Kennedy International Airport is another good option, located about 50 minutes away from the campus. You can pick either as the distance isn&rsquo;t that big a factor. 
 
Nearby Subways and train stations

The nearest subway stations are all about 30 minutes away by car so they are not a good option for daily commuting. The nearest bus stops are at least 20 minutes away so we recommend that you look for other viable options that suit you best.

The Provost Master's Scholarship is offered to exceptional students entering Stevens to pursue a master's degree on a full-time basis. This one-time tuition scholarship is awarded to qualified students at the time of their admission to Stevens.

Provost Master's Scholarship

The award can only be applied toward your Tuition and fees for your first two consecutive semesters.

Research assistant (RA) appointments are made by individual faculty members within a department or research center. If you are awarded an RA appointment, you will be expected to assist a faculty member or group of faculty members in performing research related to your field of study. 

Research Assistantships

Assistantships vary and may consist of Tuition only, Tuition and fees, or partial tuition, and may also include hourly pay or an annual stipend.
