78% of university's full-time enrolled freshmen received financial aid, 71% received scholarship/grant aid from the federal/state government or institution and 42% of full-time enrolled freshmen received loan aid from the federal government.
- Stony Brook encourages and welcomes international students who have an appreciation of other cultures. Such students may also qualify for scholarships from the university. By choosing from among international first-year students, it hopes to promote intercultural understanding. An annual, renewable scholarship will cover 50% of the chosen students' tuition.
