The University of Dayton, or UD, is a Roman Catholic Research university founded in 1850. Founded by the Society of Mary, it is one of the three Marianist universities in the country. The second-largest private university in the state, it enrolled more than 11,000 students in 2018.

Even though it was founded in 1850, the State of Ohio granted the university right to award collegiate degrees in 1882. The university is classified as one of the &lsquo;R2: Doctoral Universities &ndash; High research activity.

On-Campus Accommodation

All students currently studying in the first or second year of their courses or under 21 years of age, are required to live on-campus as per university rules. Other students can live on-campus based on availability. You would have to request housing by submitting an application online. Every other important detail is mentioned on the university website.

Off-Campus Accommodation

Students may seek private accommodation for a variety of reasons. You can lookforh apartments and flats through rental listings provided by the International Student and Scholar Services or third-party real estate websites. You can also hire an agent for convenience however we recommend you do your own research before signing any binding contracts.

Food Facilities (Availability of vegetarian/Indian food)

It&rsquo;s not like you will starve when you are studying abroad because American food has its specialities. But it is a guarantee that sooner rather than later, you would come to miss the food from your own country. When you feel homesick, you would just have to drive for about 15-20 minutes to reach Indian restaurants like Curry &amp; Grill or Amar India Restauran, servinge you food like home.

Merit Scholarships&nbsp;

International first-year and transfer applicants are eligible for the merit scholarships granted by UD to international UG students. These scholarships, valued at up to USD 25,000 per year, will be used to pay your tuition. During the admissions process, students are automatically considered for this merit scholarship.

Textbook Scholarships

The Textbook Scholarship is also given to qualified overseas students. Up to USD 4,000 in textbook expenses are covered by this prize during a four-year period.

Hospitals in Greater Dayton employ a large part of American population and have an economic impact of $6.8 billion. Site Selection magazine ranked Dayton the top mid-sized metropolitan area for economic development.

Important landmarks/places nearby

Parks and gardens seem to be the most popular places around the university campus or in Dayton, in general. Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park and the Hartman Rock Garden are some great places you can visit alone or with friends. Holbrooke Plaza and Montgomery County Water Tower are also some frequently visited places in the campus vicinity.

Crime rate

Dayton&rsquo;s crime rate as of 2018 was 921.52 per 100,000 population which, as you can probably deduce, is pretty high. This crime rate was a 4.85% increase from the crime rate of the previous year. In the state of Ohio, 97% of the communities and cities have a lower crime rate than Dayton has. When it comes to flying in and out of the country or the state, you would have to be acquainted with an airport. Whether it is for domestic travel for trips or for international travel, you can make Dayton International Airport your pit stop as it is just 21 minutes away from campus.

Nearby Subways and train stations

There is no subway network so you would have to rely on taking the bus if you are planning on commuting everyday. The nearest bus stops are at least 10 minutes away from the campus location so we recommend you do some research on commuting options that would be quicker and more convenient for you in the long run.

Internships are not only allowed but also a part of the curriculum at many of the courses offered at the university of Dayton. A semester long full-time internship is the norm during which the students work and don&#39;t register for classes as their work experience is providing them with enough professional skills. After graduating from Dayton, 97% of students find full-time work within six months.
