The University of Houston (UHCL) was founded in 1964, but it just offered a few courses to NASA employees at the Manned Spacecraft Center. In 1965 the university was awarded 50 acres of land and was asked to build an institute that includes graduate and undergraduate educational facilities. Later in 1971, the bill to build the university was passed in the legislature, and the university was established.
