The University of Ottawa (French: Université d'Ottawa), often referred to as uOttawa or U of O, is a bilingual public research university in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The main campus is located on 42.5 hectares (105 acres) in the heart of Ottawa's Downtown Core, adjacent to the residential neighbourhood of Sandy Hill, adjacent to Ottawa's Rideau Canal.
The University of Ottawa was first established as the College of Bytown in 1848 by the first bishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Ottawa, Joseph-Bruno Guigues. Placed under the direction of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, it was renamed the College of Ottawa in 1861 and received university status five years later through a royal charter. On 5 February 1889, the university was granted a pontifical charter by Pope Leo XIII, elevating the institution to a pontifical university. The university was reorganized on July 1, 1965, as a corporation, independent from any outside body or religious organization. As a result, the civil and pontifical charters were kept by the newly created Saint Paul University, federated with the university. The remaining civil faculties were retained by the reorganized university.

Accommodation Facilities

<ul>
	<li>Students have access to lodging and six distinct types of dormitories on the university&#39;s main campus.</li>
	<li>Rideau and Henderson are called Traditional plus because they provide additional facilities to the occupants. LeBlanc, Marchand, Stanton, and Thompson are community-style residence halls, while Rideau and Henderson are called Traditional plus because they provide additional facilities to the occupants.</li>
	<li>Suites and studio accommodations are available for students at 90 University and Friel.</li>
	<li>Annex, 45 Mann, and Hyman Soloway are apartment-style housing complexes that are open all year, even in the winter. These flats are popular among students who want to stay on school for longer than a year.</li>
	<li>Independent residences on campus provide an off-campus living experience for senior students who have previously completed two years at the institution.</li>

	<li>To engage with your specialisation, you may select from over 175 different clubs and groups. There are 45 intramural leagues to choose from for sports fans.</li>
	<li>On-campus comedy events at Cafe Nostalgica, participation in University&#39;s Got Talent, and free movie screenings are also available.</li>

The university is part of the u15 group, which includes Canada&#39;s top 15 research institutions. In addition, UOttawa holds the distinction of being the first university to provide a French immersion undergraduate programme in the world, and its co-operative education programme is considered among the top five in the country. University of Ottawa is well-known for the wide range of academic areas it provides, with an alumni network of over 180,000 individuals dispersed around the globe.

Professors here are excellent, with an 18:1 student-to-faculty ratio. If they notice your potential, they may urge you to pursue research. Faculty in law schools are reported to be the most helpful.

International students can get financial assistance from uOttawa in the form of monetary incentives such as the Differential Tuition Fee Exemption. Master&#39;s and PhD students can apply for external grants and assistantships. Through the uoZone student portal, undergraduate students can apply for department-specific scholarships.

	<li>The President Scholarship, worth 30,000 CAD, provides 7500 CAD&nbsp;a year in merit-based scholarships to students who have a grade point average of more than 92% and who demonstrate leadership skills and an interest in extracurricular activities. The prize is renewed if the necessary GPA percentages are maintained.</li>
	<li>Another notable merit-based prize worth 26,000 CAD is the Chancellor Scholarship, which is awarded to 6 students with outstanding academic and general records.</li>
	<li>Faculty Dean merit scholarships are awarded in a variety of areas, including engineering, arts, and social science, to mention a few.</li>
	<li>Students who enrol in study abroad programmes are eligible for a student mobility grant of 1000 CAD each term, up to a maximum of two semesters.</li>
</ul>

The main campus of the University of Ottawa covers 37.1 hectares, while the Alta Vista Campus covers 7.2 hectares. In addition to open areas, parking facilities, and sports facilities, there are 126 buildings on campus that are utilised for offices, classrooms, teaching and research laboratories, residential halls, study, and leisure spaces.

	<li>There are 302 classrooms and seminar rooms on campus, as well as 263 labs and 823 research labs.&nbsp;</li>
	<li>The&nbsp;museum and art gallery on campus has ancient relics as well as a collection of one-of-a-kind historical and religious objects.</li>

The University of Ottawa&#39;s main campus is located in the Sandy Hill neighbourhood. It is bordered by brick walled dwellings, the bulk of which are now owned by the university, and is only a 10-minute walk from two large commercial districts. There are discount days at two large food stores (Loblaws and the Metro), which are especially beneficial to students. Many museums and galleries are within walking distance. In addition, the Parliament of Canada is close by, and free tours are available. A World Heritage Site, the Rideau Canal, is also within walking distance.

	<li>uOttawa has a good co-op programme&nbsp;that is optional but provides a fantastic chance for students to gain job experience while still in school, earn $500-700 per month, and build valuable contacts.</li>
	<li>The institution offers a specialised career centre for its students and uses online and offline tools to help them in finding suitable positions. Its centre features job postings and volunteer opportunities, as well as resume writing, mock interviews, and career coaching to help students improve their professional abilities.</li>
	<li>An online platform where companies and students may exchange information serves as a conduit for students to find relevant careers.</li>
</ul>
