Around 1980, Milan emerged as the epicenter of Italian Design, and no one was teaching it formally. Critics and designers of art who were extensively recognized took this as an opportunity to guide the next generation of designers. Finally, in 1982, Domus Academy was founded as Italy&#39;s first postgraduate design school. The founders thought of a place where students from all classes could meet and exchange their ideas and would come up with company representatives who would lead real-world projects concentrating on the most critical aspects of contemporary design.

At the start, great designers such as Ettore Sottsass, Alessandro Mendini, Denis Sanachiara, and Philippe Strack were there as lecturers and workshop leaders, which quickly gave Domus a strong reputation on the international level for its practical methods and its humanistic approach, ich process is more important than the results.
