It was due to the passing of bill 109, that in 2002, the Ontario Tech University emerged. Standing in Oshawa, Ontario, the institution was a government initiative to expand the learning space for the post secondary studies. 
The university comprises courses and programs with primary focus on the fields of engineering and computer science. From only around 900 students in the start, at present the student enrollment population is about 10,000. Apart from courses and programs, Ontario Tech encourages research work also.

On-campus facilities: The university offers accommodation to about 1,300 students at a time. There are 2 residences by the name Simcoe Village and South Village. The first one consists of 3 halls of residence and later is itself the hall of residence. The common features and services are: 1. Fully furnished rooms. 2. Kitchen and kitchen appliances are available. 3. Workspace within the room. 4. Front desk staff are also available. 5. Lounges, games room and common areas. 6. High speed internet connectivity. 7. Food facilities (Availability of vegetarian/Indian food): The institution is in partnership with a culinary company by the name of Dana Hospitality which looks after the food services of the university and the campus as well. The Indian restaurant near the university campus are: 1. King Pita is just 4 mins away from the campus. 2. Garthy Takeout and Catering is also 5 mins from the university. 3. Maharaja is 11 mins from the college. 4. Signature Indian Cuisine is about 15 mins from the campus. 5. Curry Club restaurant is also about 12 mins away.
