<p>The <b>University of Southern Maine</b> (<b>USM</b>) is a public university with campuses in Portland, Gorham and Lewiston in the U.S. state of Maine. It is the southernmost of the University of Maine System. It was founded as two separate state universities, Gorham Normal School and University of Maine at Portland. The two universities were combined in 1970 to help streamline the public university system in Maine and eventually expanded by adding the Lewiston campus in 1988.
</p><p>The Portland Campus is home to the Edmund Muskie School of Public Service, the Bio Sciences Research Institute, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and the Osher Map Library, and the USM School of Business. The Gorham campus, much more residential, is home to the School of Education and Human Development and the School of Music. As of 2019, USM had 6,700 undergraduate students and 1,500 graduate students, with a student-faculty ratio of 13:1.

<p>USM offers on-campus accommodation at its Gorham campus only. There are well-facilitated dormitiories and residence halls&nbsp;built on the campus that can house over 600 students. The residential halls are&nbsp;Hastings hall, Anderson Hall,&nbsp;Robie Andrews hall, Woodward Hall, Phillippi Hall and Upperclass Hall.&nbsp;</p>

<p>If any student can&rsquo;t get the on-campus accommodation facility by the university by any chance, they can always opt for the off-campus accommodation which the university allows as well. Students can rent any flat or different types of apartments like private apartment, shared apartment, studio apartment, etc. depending on their budget and interest. The average cost of an apartment ranges between 800-1,000 USD per month.</p>
