Place Description
Nelson is a city with a rich history and was established in 1841. It is the oldest city in the South Island and the oldest settlement in the country. This city thrives on cultural value and has much to offer its residents in terms of art and crafts. The city was named in the honor of Admiral Horatio Nelson who was a pioneer figure in the defeat of both the French and Spanish fleet in the Battle of Trafalgar.
