On February 28, 1877, the University of Manitoba was established. It began as a federation of three existing colleges, St. Boniface College, St. John&#39;s College, and Manitoba College, and eventually grew to include a number more institutions. In 1880, the University acquired its first-degree bearer, and in 1886, it welcomed its first female student.
