Germany offers three primary types of student visas tailored to different study needs. Each type serves a specific purpose for international students.
The first type is the Student Visa for those who have already been accepted into a German university. This visa is for full-time degree programs, such as bachelor's, master's, or PhD courses. Students use this visa when they have their admission letter ready.
The second type is the Student Applicant Visa. This visa helps students who are still applying to universities or need to complete entrance exams. Students can stay for up to 9 months to complete their admission process. This visa gives them time to find the right university program.
The third type is the Language Course Visa. This visa is for students who want to learn German before starting their primary studies. The language course must be at least 18 hours per week. Students can use this visa to improve their German skills first.
There are also Short-term Study Visas for programs lasting less than 90 days. These are called Schengen visas and work for short courses or exchange programs.
